|
|
A long story short - About a month ago, I took my car in for service and brought my dad along. The dealership has a 'self-serve' bar area for snacks and coffee and my dad wanted a cup of coffee. I had noticed the Keurig earlier when we'd purchased our car and my husband said they had one at work. Even though I was a bit intimidated by it, I followed the simple directions beside the maker, chose a regular blend (Nantucket) I thought my dad would like and presto! Coffee in about 30 seconds. I tasted it to make sure my dad would like it and WOW! I was stunned! It tasted like a fine restaurant coffee...nice and smooth. Then on Friday, my husband left his work keys at home and called asking me to bring them to him. He was waiting for me, coffee in-hand, and I had to have a sip. Again - WOW! Am I crazy to want a Keurig after only a few sips of coffee??? I immediately started researching (as I do with anything I want nowadays) and ended up here.
I'm pretty sure I want the Platnium since it has the quiet brew technology, the ability to brew iced beverages, plus all sorts of cool features. There's a good price at Amazon (about $15 lower than Keurig) but it seems to be the plain ole B70 and not the Platinum. Has anyone recently ordered their's from Amazon and could let me know? I am an Amazon Prime member and really love their superfast delivery. Also, I don't live near a Costco or a BJ's. Don't have a Sam's Club membership either. But free shipping and no sales tax pushes my buttons every time!
We currently have a Braun drip and use 8 O'Clock Columbian coffee. It's pretty tasty for for about 30 minutes then bleh! At least to me. Hubby wants to keep the drip until it dies....ugh. And I have other ideas...
Thanks for listening...

| I think that you will find that the Platinum and the B70 are the same maching with both terms being names for the same. If I am wrong, one of the other members will correct me quite shortly. Go for it and enjoy your maching. |

I wouldn't wait. That drip machine might never die!
Right, B70 = Platinum as far as I know. I'll let someone who has one chime in. I see one on Amazon with Quiet Brew for $156, but it doesn't have the iced coffee setting. Here's a link to info. on what I think is the latest version of the B70:

Welcome to the forum.
My advice is....you only live once, and life is short. Why not drink better coffee?
See my signature and see if I like Keurig machines..... _________________ Pete (Jolly) -

I know about the BBB coupon but don't have one. I figured I'd spend most of that discount back on sales tax. It would be instant gratification though! I would have my brewer!
Has anyone gotten a brewer from Green Mountain? They have discounts on brewers and accessories as well as their k-cups as long as you join their club. This is very tempting but I'm not sure I want to join? Considering the discounts, it would probably be better in the long run.
I've also looked at other coffee websites (esp. Keurig) and am tempted to get a brewer there. Decisions...decisions...

Even with with Green Mountain/Keurig discounts, it's more expensive per box compared to the prices at places like shoffee, coffeewiz, amazon, etc. I wouldn't join the club unless the lowered their price per box for club members.
The one good deal you can get from then is the initial "buy 2 boxes get 2 free" deal when you register your Keurig machine, so make sure to do that. _________________ Current Gizmos:

Merry,
If the B70 sells for $170, then the 20% coupon would take $34 off, leaving a sales price of $136, plus sales tax. I don't know what state you are in, but I'm pretty sure you would still come out ahead.
In any event, I hope you enjoy the Keurig experience as much as I do. |

| Merry, if you sign up for email notifications at the bed bath and beyond web site, they will give you a 20 per cent off coupon that you can print out at home and take with you to get the discount. |

Looks like Bed Bath & Beyond wins the race! I signed up at their website last night and printed out the coupon this morning. With the discount, plus added sales tax, my total should be just under $150. Yay!
This morning I came a hair of getting one at J&R. Their brewer was still $170 but they were throwing in a carousel and some kind of filter. I have an account with ebates and would have gotten a 3% kickback from my order but the J&R site wasn't clear on the filter. So I decided to pass.
I'm gonna call the store before I toddle on up there and make sure they have it. After making up my mind (finally!), I don't want to come away disappointed. I'll probably pick up some coffee to get me started, too.
I really appreciate everyone's help in this...!

| The version Costco sells (called the B77) is the model you are looking for - if you have a membership, the machine can be bought for $140 and it comes with the my K-cup and a LOT of coffee |

Well, I finally got my brewer - Yay! Set up was a breeze. The only thing I did differently was to wash the resevoir and lid in hot soapy water. After heating and priming, I had my first cup in less than 30 seconds. Yum! I'm a happy camper except for one thing...
I picked up a couple boxes at the store - the GM Nantucket Blend and a variety box. Unfortunately, the variety box expires next month. So....I was wondering if I should exchange it for a better expiry date or just keep it? Shouldn't the k-cups be OK to use or does them being stale affect the taste that much? Right now we're using the k-cups that came with the brewer and I didn't see any date on them. They've all been just fine and quiet tasty!
The next thing I need to do is decide which boxes to get when I register my brewer....more decisions???
Thanks-a-million to everyone here who's helps me. I really love this forum!

About the old-ish k-cups, they should be fine. In a blind taste test, I'm not positive I could pick out the freshest of two identical k-cups packed 6 months apart. But I'd be slightly annoyed to buy k-cups expiring within a month. I might exchange them on principle. _________________ Grindmaster OPOD, Keurig B40, Nespresso D90, Clever Coffee Dripper + Hario Skerton mill

If you haven't opened the box, return them if you won't go through them before they expire.
If you are going to use them, just keep them and enjoy!
I honestly haven't paid much attention to the expire date on my K-cups I have...I've used them and don't notice anything being off. |

| This is a case where I really don't think that you have a real choice as far as expiration dates on the k cups. They are packed when the machine is packed for inventory for a distributor. It is kind of the luck of the draw as far as the freshness dates on the included product. I am speaking from experience from buying two B77 machines from BJ's Wholesale Club. Some of the coffee was fresh, some was to stay fresh for a limited time. Keep in mind that we are paying for the machine and the free coffee is a bonus. |
