| Interesting idea... I wonder if Nespresso will try to bring an action against them for copying the capsule design? Not sure if they have a patent on it or not... Since they have Nestle behind them I am sure they can crush this small swiss comapny in litigation alone. Be interesting to see how it goes.. |

Great idea.
Worth noting though that these do NOT appear to be refillable!
Repeated use of 'single use' in their schpiel would seem to suggest this.
Illy espresso+capsules+shipping = just a wee bit more than Nespresso caps themselves; at least here in the UK.
I'm going to order some. |

I think they are refillable, using a new filter each time. Pointless otherwise. _________________ Scott

I thought 'why are they shipping in packs of 80? A bit of an excessive amount for refillable's, surely could get by with 10 or so?'
Then I read their site and NOWHERE does it say they're reuseable; rather:
'NexPod® compatible with Nespresso® is a system of single use capsules, made to fill in an easy and clean way to be used with your Nespresso® coffee machine.
The single use NexPod® for Nespresso ® allow to use your Nespresso® machine with the coffee (or tea) of your choice. You can fill them with ground coffee as you wish. The capsules are easily closed with the joined cap and inserted in the Nespresso® machine as normal Nespresso® capsules.'
I've ordered some anyway to see what the machines turn out with non-Nestle espresso.... |

'ppears to be a single use My-Kcup for Nespresso.
It does have the advantage of being a recyclable plastic and certainly looks easier to empty used grinds than the normal Nespresso aluminum capsule.
If it works it might be interesting.
The big reservation I find is after reading their troubleshooting pages. I get the feeling it will be very hard to duplicate the correct grind to make stuff work with the machine. _________________ Aslan is not a Tame Lion |

If it is single use it seems fairly useless. _________________ Scott

Wait, why? Is there another way to use your own coffee with the Nespresso machine? If so, then fine. But otherwise this seems useful to me in principle, and I like that it's recyclable. _________________ Grindmaster OPOD, Keurig B40, Nespresso D90, Clever Coffee Dripper + Hario Skerton mill

Oh Lord, jar's right about the troubleshooting. Give this a read (from their site) and tell me you don't have a few reservations!
Troubleshooting
If the coffee doesn’t come out the machine or the machine stops pumping, try following workarounds:
1. be sure to insert the paper filter in the cap before using each capsule
2. press the button again and try 3 or 4 times before removing the pod from the machine
3. take the NexPod out of the machine, rinse the machine by pressing the button without inserted pod, than insert it again and press the button even more times if espresso doesn’t come out
4. If it still doesn’t do try non to press so much coffee in the NexPod
5. If it doesn’t do again, Let the machine cool down by switching it off for at least ½ hour and try again from point 1
6. If it still doesn’t work, it my be that your machine has a weaker pump unit. Let the service fix it _________________ Grindmaster OPOD, Keurig B40, Nespresso D90, Clever Coffee Dripper + Hario Skerton mill

Being recyclable is the big draw for me.
Mine should arrive soon so will let y'all know how I find them.
Although I thought Nespresso caps had 7g of coffee in - these only seem to be able to take 5g. |

I think the point with NexPod is this: You can Put your blend in your Nespresso machine. The economical advantage is there (30%-40% less than the Nespresso original pods) but is weakened now by the shipping costs worldwide. The distribution trough partners in the USA is planned.
About repeated use the point is this is what the FAQ says:
Can I use the Nexpod Capsule twice or many times?
The answer is yes, but..!. We recommend to use our capsules only once to avoid problems. They are in fact designed to be a single use product. After testing we discovered that the capsule, if washed out, can be used twice or even three or four times. This implies opening, cleaning them out of the used coffee powder and putting a new filter inside before refilling them. (don’t’ forget the filter or it will non work properly). Unfortunately the capsule inside the machine is very stressed by high temperature (100 Celsius) and high pressure (to 19 bar) and the plastic will be deformed from this stress, so after three or four usages it will be almost destroyed or not well functioning anymore.
I want to use the capsules twice, can I order the filters separately?
Although we suggest not to use our product more than once, we put slightly more filters in the box than capsules (about 90 filters over 80 capsules). If you need more filters let us know that and we can deliver you more with your next order.
I hope that this will clarify a bit more the issues about Nexpod! |
