This morning I ground up some Papua New Guinea( Full city roast). Put 2 1/4 tbsp into a T-Sac and brewwed it in the Bunn. An absolutely incredible cup of coffee. Has a kinda citrus aroma, very rich and deep body with a tangy finish. An excellent cup!!!!

I wish this an several other exotic varietals were available in pod form. But until then i have found the perfect grind for the T-Sacs and the Bunn.

Anyone else using some exotics with T-Sacs?

Michael

What grind did you go with?
Finer or courser than drip grind?

I go 2 click finer. My grinder has 17 settings 1 is ciarse 17 is powder. I use it on the 12th setting. About half way between exspresso grind and drip grind.

Hey, this is news to me!

You can use a T-Sac in a Bunn? What's a T-Sac? I thought they were just some other shaped pod with coffee in them. . . .

My Bunn's not here yet but I DO have Papua New Guinea beans from The Coffee Fool~~~ one of me three or four very best favorites of all.

Now, see, if I knew you could brew your own coffee in the Bunn I might not have bought the Keurig . . . . but I do love my Keurig!

I actually discovered these about 6 or 7 months ago. My husband uses them religiously every morning to make his coffee with his favorite grind and they work great in the BUNN. Here is a link to the post which shows pics of the boxes, the sizes, etc. You will need the size 2's. 1's are too small and 3s are too big.

Here is a link to buy the size 2 T-Sacs. I ordered them 3 days ago, and they arrived today.

Brandy....Is There any particular way that your hubby manhandles these into the pod holder?
Does he tuck the edges down under or do anything special?

He fills them, folds them over, then puts a staple in the top to hold them. Then he just sorta stuffs them into the pod holder. The trick is to make sure there is no open spaces on the side as that will let water run though and you won't get good coffee infusion. They are pretty big once they are filled so you just have to sorta flatten them out before inserting into the pod holder, then tuck them in real good. Its ok if they are a bit snug...actually that is better.

He makes up a weeks worth at a time and keeps them in a airtight container for daily use. Hope this helps.

You see thats where I get a bit confused as the whether I am doing it right.
I fold my sacs in half but I dont staple them, does he staple where the fold is or does he staple the two layers (top and bottom) together?

Also....bear with me please, I know I am being a pain...
When you say he puts it in the holder so no open sides are showing, I surmise you mean open sides on the depression bit in the bottom of the holder and not open sides in the bigger part of the holder.

With em being square, I can cover the bottom bit totally but not cover all of the bit bit of the pod holder.

Hey Mandy,
I think you are obsessing over this a bit. It is not an exact science. The pot holder is round, the t-sack is rectangular, you can't put a square sac in a round hole very easily. My husband says it requires a bit of fanagaling....press it in then smoosh it all around so it fits in good and tight with no side holes. My dh also said to make sure you don't leave any sitting on the lip of the pod holder or you will end up with water on the counter. It will sit up kindof high in the pod holder and require you to sorta force it (not seriously just gently) into the holder lock.

Also, he folds the top over twice and puts the staple through all three layers. Hope this helps..... It really is not near as complicated as it sounds. Its just like putting a tea bag into your pod holder only these are a bit bigger and filled with coffee. Smile

I also use the T-Sacs with the Senseo. Brewed 100% Maui Dark Roast today. Took a little manipulating the T-Sac to get it to fit just right in the double pod holder, but I'm getting better at it.

Even got the signature Senseo foam. This brew had a wonderful, robust, syrupy flavor and absolutely no bitterness.

Now if only my Chocolate Macadamia Nut coffee would brew as good. For some reason, the aroma and flavor aren't there. I'm going to take a T-Sac to work next week and try the pulse brew on the Bunn. It may need to steep in the water a bit more to bring out the aroma and flavor since I would normally use the drip coffee maker for this one. Smile

Instead of the pulse brew I do 2 x 4oz drops, becaue I find that the interval waiting for the brewer to reheat gives just that little bittle of extra time for the coffee to mix with the water.
I have tried both ways side by side and the 2 drops versus the pulse gives that bit of a more flavorful cup.

Ground some Fair Trade Organic Sumatra( roasted yesterday) this morning. Put 2 Tablespoons in a T-Sac and brewed in the Bunn. OMG....the absolute best Sumatra I have ever had.

Tomorrow morning I will do the same with some Peru La Florida.

At 5.00 for a half pound I get several T-Saca and a couple pots. It is fairly economical. Should have my own roaster soon and it will much cheaper then.....about 3.00 pound.
