**** Coffee Artisan 100% Kona

Wow! What a great cup of coffee. I've been saving these pods since I only have two. The next time I order from the Coffee Artisan I'll definitely be buying a box of this flavour along with their Blue Mountain. Fantastic coffees. I never realized that light roast coffees could be so rich and flavourful. My only experience with Kona has been the blends and the fantastic Aloha Is. pod that Josh sent. I won't say that this Kona is my favourite pod but it's certainly in my top five. It's hard to distinguish the different flavour notes but this is one rich and smooth cup of goodness. I drank this with cream but it would be equally as good without.

Now I'm really looking forward to my next shipment from The Coffee Artisan arrives. Ordered lots of samples with the Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain from TCA as expected highlights.

You won't be disappointed. Both are great and worth the extra money.

**** Higgins & Burke Black Pearl

Wow this is a great one. On their roasting scale of 1-7, 1-2 being light and 6 being dark this is rated a 7. Mother Parker recommends this one to dark roast lovers only.

This didn't seem as heavy on the char notes as their Midnight Mirage (another great coffee from this company) and seemed a great deal smoother. But as it cooled the char notes set in. This coffee has outstanding flavour and is great with cream. I drank 1/2 cup black and it was good as well. I knew this was going to be a great one just with the odour out of the wrapper. I would definitely buy a box of this one again if it's still being made. I was informed by Lovely Cuppa that the company is reducing their production of pods. I guess not a big market for them in Canada.

I had been searching for some unique teas and I stumbled across this place called Lovely Cuppa. I noticed they also carried Distinctively Yours coffee pods but when I placed an order most of the pods were not being made anymore. He mentioned that he could get me Higgins & Burke Black Pearl and Passage to Columbia. Needless to say, I jumped on those two. The Midnight Mirage and 1912 were part of the free samples that I received when I bought my Bunn.

*** Higgins & Burke Passage to Columbia

This is a medium dark roast that's plenty strong in my cup at 8 oz. When I first opened the foil wrapper I was alittle put off from the odour. Maybe it was just an off day for me since I enjoy Columbian coffee. I could detect grassy flavours in the first few sips and the coffee seemed quite sharp. Adding cream smoothed out the flavour and I found the more I drink this the more I like it. It's what you expect a Columbian to taste like. Though I liked this one I much prefer the Zavida Columbian and probably would not buy a box of this flavour.

** Reunion Island Island Reserve

In all fairness I shouldn't review this one. I thought I had a second pod but no luck when searching through my stash. This was the first pod from Chad that was busted. Some of the coffee grains were in the foil wrapper. I kind of folded it over and used it in my Bunn anyway which I wish I hadn't. I had hot water pouring out from the top of the holder. The flavour here was really non-descript with slight winey tones. I'll review this one again if I get another sample.

**** Cafejo Signature Blend

Matt, you were right about this one. When I opened the foil wrapper I could definitely detect a faint aroma of smoke and the same thing while it was brewing into my cup. This is a medium roast coffee with nothing that really pops out at me just general smoothness. Also in the new terms I should be using I would call it a balanced cup. ( That chart sure came in handy) As the coffee cooled a pleasant taste of char developed in my mouth, very slight but still present. This is quite a lovely cup of coffee, not really a four star but really close so what the heck. I would definitely put this one on my list to buy. Thankyou Matt for this wonderful sample.

I don't remember the Signature Blend as anything special at all. Time to refresh my memory I guess. Maybe the ones I've tried were old? I'll put a couple of them in my next order from TCA.

There is nothing that pops out a you, but sometimes you just want a good old fashioned cup of coffee like a Timmy's ( our local donut shop chain) and that pod certainly fits the bill but it's so much better.

I know this is my coffee pod review thread but I was given some free tea pod samples the last time I ordered and I thought I would briefly review them for anyone that's interested.

**** Organa Earl Grey

When I unwrapped this and looked at the pod, I thought no way is this going to make a good cup of tea. I have no frame of reference other then tea bags and K-cups. K-cups in general are too weak. The only one I tried that was quite good was the Mint Medley by Bigelow.

I used my extra holder and the tea setting to brew this pod and to my surprise it was quite excellent. The flavour was exactly what you expect with an Earl Grey tea and this brand Organa is quite good. I have three or four different samples that I will try over time. Probably would not buy a box of this because tea bags and my Keurig are sufficient for my needs but I was pleasantly surprised.

I've tried this too and liked it enough to remember. And hey, nothing says you can't include tea pods here, right?! I think the Organa pods are affiliated with Wolfgang Puck somehow because WP sent me some Organa samples once along with samples of their coffee pods.

The CCB sent me some free tea samples when I placed my last coffee order. I found it curious at first because there was only coffee and syrups in my order but I'm certainly glad to have them.

BTW I'm glad you're as impressed with the Black Pearl like I am. It sure is a good one.
