Strongest K Cup?

Postby sparkylulu » Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:49 am

We are always in search of the strongest K Cup.
We have tried:
Midnight Magic, which was strong but just got boring.
GM Double Black Diamond but got two boxes that were horrible, weak and poor. Had to send them back. Now we are wary of quality control.
Emeril.
This is the one we are drinking now.
Anyone have any luck with any others we should know about? My wife is an inveterate strong coffee drinker. (Anything less than chock full is wasted on her).

Thoughts?

Here are a few others you might like (especially the first):

Tully's French Roast
Green Mountain Dark Magic
Green Mountain Lake & Lodge
Timothy's Rainforest Espresso
Timothy's Parisian Nights
Van Houtte Eclipse
Coffee People Wake-up Call
Gloria Jean's Black Gold

You should also tell us what size drop you're using when you get a chance!

Middle setting. Large is too weak and smallest is not enough coffee.
Of those, what is the strongest!?

I think you might want to start with the Tully's French Roast. I recently heard from someone else who likes dark roasts saying that it was fine even at 9.25 oz. "Strongest" is very subjective, but the Tully's has to be way up there for sure.

This might not be what you want to hear, but if you're truly into super-strong coffee and you don't like the small setting, you might also consider moving away from the Keurig platform altogether and getting a good pod machine. ;)

Are pods stronger than cups?

I think it's more a question of the higher-end pod machines getting better extraction out of the pods (using pulsed brewing) than the Keurigs can manage.

Sticking with the K Cups.
Still wondering. What is the strongest one?
Is there anything on par with the three I mentioned? Or even stronger???

The problem is ... "what does stronger mean?"

really?
Okay.
When you drink it, it's like adrenaline. vs. weaker. Which is.....weaker.
Some people like a really strong jolt of caffeine with their coffee.
The examples I gave are some of the strongest k cups. Known for their "eye opening" strength.
I don't know how to be clearer.

Well, let me try to give you an answer.

If you go by weight as opposed to volume, a dark roast will likely have slightly more caffeine than a light roast.

If the K-cups are filled by volume, as I expect they are, a light roast will have slightly more caffeine than a darker roast.

In either case, an Extra Bold coffee will likely have more caffeine than the regular K-cups.

A blend that contains Robusta coffees as opposed to Arabica will have more caffeine.

This is the main reason Extra Bold Kcups have about 12 grams of coffee Grinds compared to a average 9.5 grams in a typical pod.
More coffee compensates for the less efficient extraction.
When it comes to cup size produced pods & Kcups are pretty much equal.
Pods also tend to cost slightly less per cup than Kcups.

Have you tried soaking the kcup by stopping the process just as the coffee starts to drop? Wait 30 sec and then restart. This should increase the strength

Parisian Nights is one I've had lately that really impressed me with boldness. Others I'd consider as quite strong are Big Easy Bold, Jet Fuel and Black Tiger.
