Enjoyed that video overview. Of course, would like to know more -- in particular, how is the espresso and how does it compare to others?

Just purchased one last night from Williams Sonoma. They will have them exclusively until Oct 16th when the Starbucks retail locations will begin selling them.

It's a K-Fee machine almost identical to the Aldi Expressi with the only difference (from what I can tell) being the shape of the drip tray. I haven't tried brewed coffee yet, but the espresso was rather good. I also threw in a CBTL(caffitaly) pod to see if it worked and it did! The caffitaly pods are exactly the same size and shape, but are different on the inside (two plastic filters instead of one paper filter). I'm not sure that it would work the other way around though as I don't have a CBTL machine to try it.

Correction: Williams Sonoma has them in store exclusively. You can also get them on the Starbucks website

^^^ Welcome! Good call. Here's the W-S link: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/search/r ... ewset=ecom

Which machine did you get, btw? Looks like only the more expensive model is listed as "exclusive." I think this might be the first solid report that CBTL capsules do, in fact, work in the Verismo, as was suggested back on p. 2. Very interesting.

Mod note: I'll be merging this thread into the main Verismo thread later tonight [update: done].

If the CBTL cup worked in the Verismo does it not follow that the Starbucks cup would work in the CBTL brewer? The Kaldi retails for $179.95.

rhfil, one might think so, but maybe not if Bekka's source (quoted above) was/is correct. Somebody should give it a try!

I have some of the capsules ordered. They should get down here in a week or so.

I went to William Sonoma today and picked up the Verismo 585 (deluxe mode). The machine is well made, solid and looks good. I'm sure a more detailed review will be posted here soon. However, I most comment on the drinks. Tried the expresso dark roast, milk capsules and verona blend. IMHO, all were excellent and delivered that great Starbucks taste. As a plus, the drinks were hot, very hot...which I like. I was concerned about this feature and was glad the temp did not disappoint. Nice creme on each cup brewed. The machine is simple to use, and has variable adjustments for making the drink cooler or adjusting the beverage size. The drip tray stack, if you want larger cups, you can just remove the top level and you're off. I moved my Keurig Vue to the side for now, but I have no doubt that this is my machine of choice. I was very happy with the VUE, but i'm EXTREMELY happy with the Verismo. Personally speaking, this is THE machine i've been waiting for. Beverages so far and fantastic in every way. Also, I was very please with the milk capsules. I thought the flavor was pleasant and not at all artificial - very creamy tasting. All in all, I'm ecstatic about the purchase. Hope other find it just as enjoyable.

Joojoobeans, how many machines do you have? I count five: Verismo, Keurig, Lattissima, Magnifica, and Jura z5. Do you have any others? How about comparing them all. Which makes the best latte? Cappuchino? Espresso?

I got the 580. Of course the 585 looks very nice, but alas, I cannot justify the expense at the moment. Also, concerning the caffitaly pods in the verisimo: Don't try to run a caffitaly (CBTL) pod through twice. I tried this and during the attempted second shot, the machine appeared to have some issues and the flow stopped. Thankfully, this did not seem to harm the machine as they continue to run through fine when used only once. Though I would suggest only using the caffitaly pods once in the verisimo. What can I say I like to experiment! The official k-fee starbucks pods handle two brews fine by the way.

Which brings me to a question. I read somewhere that the european Expressi machine has programmable brew lengths by holding the button down or something. Being a re-branded Expressi, I'm cautiously assuming that the verisimo might as well, but this was nowhere in the instruction manual. Do any of you know how this "programming" can be done? Perhaps a longer brew length for the espresso shot would allow me to brew a "grande" mocha without using two CBTL pods. Hey, its a bad economy right? :)

Ah, good to know.

FWIW, I just watched the W-S videos for both machines, and "adjustable, programmable beverage size settings" was only mentioned for the 585.

Thanks for the observation. Ha I see, so reduce the feature set on the 580 to create "extra" features on the 585. Nice. Well, I wont give up quite yet on "programming" the 580. I'll have to dig around a bit more on the nets.

At over a dollar per shot they seem pretty pricy to me. But if they offer a deal on them like the $2.00 off per box they have on the k-cups I will probably try a few different ones to compare using the Kaldi. Everyone has their own opinion but, personally, I can't justify $11 for 10 shots versus less then $9 for 16 CBTL capsules at BB&B using their coupon, or under $6 per sleeve of 10 from Meinl.
I haven't found a brewed capsule for the Caffitally system I'm overly fond of yet. Consequently, I've been making Americanos for the most part with it when I want an "American type" cup if it's the Kaldi's turn at work. Maybe the Caffe Verona or another might fill that niche? Only time will tell.
